Today, the Syrian Democratic Council issued a statement to the public opinion, through which it announced the formation of a committee to follow up the file of detainees and kidnappees, in conjunction with fears of the spread of Coronavirus in the prisons of the Turkish occupation and the Muslim Brotherhood militants who are known as the “Syrian National Army / Free Army”, Amid the calls of relatives of the kidnappers to release them, especially the indigenous people in Afrin, “Sere Kaniye / Ras Al-Ain” and “Gire Spi / Tel Abyad”.
“The silence must be broken, and the moment of truth and responsibility for the sake of the detainees, kidnappees and forcibly disappeared will begin, at a time when half of the Syrians are among refugees and displaced persons, hundreds of thousands of victims and missing persons, and the world is silent and inactive.” What requires self-initiative, hard work and a responsible attitude to end political, human, social and economic suffering, taking into account that any political solution begins with confidence-building measures, the foremost of which is the release of all detainees and kidnappers, the disclosure of the fate of missing and forced disappearances, and the trial of those who committed war crimes and terrorism fairly. ”
The statement continued: “The start of this file is the beginning of the path to end the suffering of the Syrian people, fulfill their demands for freedom, democracy and justice, and stop the rivers of blood and pain. In detention centers that insult human dignity, detainees are subjected to numerous human rights violations, including torture, starvation, and deliberate neglect of the health condition that sometimes lead to their death, and no one can condone kidnappings and arrests and establish special and field courts that do not conform to international standards for a fair and transparent trial. ”
And the Democratic Council of Syria added: “We condemn and denounce all violations committed against the Syrians, whoever commits these violations, and we refer to the prevalence of feelings of despair, frustration and oppression among the Syrians, loss of hope for the future, blockage of salvation methods, and difficulties in searching for an appropriate strategy for Syria is safe and democratic for all its people, away from a culture of hatred and violence.
He pointed out: “We are in the Council of Democratic Syria – and while we call on the parties to the conflict in Syria to abide by international human rights law and all relevant international laws and treaties – we hold these parties responsible for the physical and psychological integrity of the people they are holding, and we demand them to release all detainees and abductees and uncover the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to have access to detention centers, in addition to the abolition of all exceptional courts, such as field courts, the terrorism court and legal bodies.
SDC explained that they considered the file of detainees, kidnappees, missing and forced disappearances as a humanitarian file, above negotiation, and it should not be used as a tool of blackmail or bargaining from any party whatsoever.
They stated that he is looking forward to finding a solution to the Syrian crisis according to the political negotiating track that leads to a sustainable democratic transition, guided by the relevant international resolutions, foremost of which is resolution 2254, noting that this will only be achieved with the participation of all political, social and civil forces in working on all files starting with the file of detainees for that: The Syrian Democratic Council puts all the possibilities available to it and at all levels to work for the release of all detainees and abductees and to reveal the fate of missing and forcibly disappeared persons.
He continued: “In this regard, we announce the launch of a working group of families of detainees and kidnappers, legal professionals and civil society activists, to follow-up, cooperation, coordination and communication with all local, regional and international bodies, organizations and institutions and work to collect and define data on the file of the arrest and to develop the necessary plans to meet the aspirations and hopes of the Syrians.
