A convoy carrying nearly 100,000 displaced residents of Afrin, currently residing in the Shahba region, began its journey today, Monday, toward Aleppo city and onward to the Al-Bu Asi crossing near Tabqa.
According to our sources, negotiations between the Autonomous Administration and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) extended late into the night to ensure the safety of civilians and prevent violations along the route. This precaution comes as Syrian National Army (SNA) militias control most roads leading to eastern Syria.
The Autonomous Administration reportedly received assurances from the International Coalition to monitor the convoy and deter any attacks or abuses against the Kurdish civilians.
Unverified reports emerged of several civilians losing their lives last night due to extreme cold and hunger, with children and the elderly particularly affected. However, confirming these reports has proven difficult due to the massive scale of the convoy, which consists of approximately 5,000 buses spread along the Tel Qarah–Fafin–Al-Ahdath route.
This mass displacement underscores the urgent need for humanitarian support and protection for the displaced, who are undertaking this perilous journey amid harsh winter conditions and an unstable security landscape.
