Turkish-backed “Military Police” detained several Kurdish civilians this week at the Qatma checkpoint in Afrin. Among those arrested was Abdu Jamal, a 45-year-old resident of Okan village in Bulbul sub-district. Jamal was apprehended on Tuesday while returning to his hometown and subsequently transferred to a prison in Azaz. He faces accusations of having previously been affiliated with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) under the Autonomous Administration.
The same militia also arrested Mahmoud Khalil Hussein and Osman Hanan Khalil, both in their forties and from Rajo town. They were accused of membership in the Self-Defense Forces (Hezî Cewherî) during the period of Kurdish Autonomous Administration.
These arrests highlight the ongoing persecution of Kurdish civilians in Afrin by Turkish-backed factions, targeting individuals based on alleged affiliations with the former Kurdish administration. Such actions add to the widespread violations against the region’s displaced and returning populations.
