Kurdish Citizens Arrested in Afrin Amid Allegations of Baseless Charges

afrinpost-exclusive

Our correspondent reported that Turkish authorities detained two Kurdish residents from the town of Midanki, Walid Kayali and Idris Turko, who remain in arbitrary detention as of yesterday.

The correspondent explained that Kayali was detained for a second time under accusations of previous connections with the former Autonomous Administration, while Turko was allegedly charged on fabricated grounds.

This incident follows a pattern by Turkish authorities and allied militias in Afrin of detaining Kurdish citizens, often on tenuous or unsubstantiated charges, including alleged ties to the Autonomous Administration, which was dissolved nearly seven years ago. These actions appear aimed at pressuring and extorting the Kurdish population, fueling conditions that drive them toward displacement and emigration.
