Our correspondent reports that an armed group led by Adnan al-Khwailid, also known as “Abu Walid al-Izza,” affiliated with the “Sultan Murad Division,” stole six bags of olives (each weighing around 90 kg) from the olive grove of local resident Nouri Hassan Bakr near Qurbe village in Bulbul sub-district, in broad daylight.
In a related incident, Mohammad Hanif, known as Abu Rezgar, found women from IDP families picking olives from his trees near the village of Avraz in Mabeta/Maabatli sub-district. When he politely attempted to stop them, they threatened him with accusations of dishonoring them. Seeking help, he approached the “9th Division” militia, which controls the area. Some militia members intervened, but the women continued harvesting, asserting it was their “turn” to benefit from the crops after years of Kurdish ownership.
These incidents underscore rising tensions and ongoing struggles over property rights in Afrin, where local residents face frequent confrontations and exploitation.
