In a recent development reported by our correspondent in Afrin, Turkish intelligence and police units apprehended two civilians in Afrin.
On Monday, May 6th, Mohammad Mohammad Barakat, aged 46 and hailing from the village of Kokan in the Maabatli sub-district, was detained on allegations of participating in night guard duties during the previous Autonomous Administration. Barakat’s arrest took place in Al-Mahmudiya neighborhood of Afrin city upon his return from Lebanon, where he had been displaced.
Subsequently, on Tuesday, May 7th, another civilian, Mohammad Mahmoud Mustafa, aged 38 and from the Arab community in Afrin city, was also arrested. Mustafa faced the same charge and was apprehended near the Iman Bakery along the Trende road in the southern part of the city.
It is worth noting that both detainees are currently held under arbitrary detention, raising concerns about their legal status and rights.
