According to our correspondent in Afrin, a member of the ISIS organization has recently arrived in Afrin and is currently residing in a seized house on a street near the water tank in Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood. This property was previously occupied by ISIS member Ibrahim Saffan.
The operative, known as “Abu Muhammad Sharqiyah,” hails from Deir ez-Zor province. He had previously fled to Turkey and has now returned to Afrin.
Following the occupation of Afrin in 2018, Ibrahim Saffan seized the house, which belongs to Ibrahim Hanan, a Kurdish Yezidi from the village of Baflon in the Sharan sub-district. When Hanan returned to his home the same year, Saffan detained him, recording a video labeling him as a “non-believer.” Hanan was imprisoned for a week and had to pay a ransom of $5,000 to be released, forcing him to migrate to the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
Furthermore, Ibrahim Saffan, along with another ISIS member, have taken control of several other homes in Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood, belonging to Hanan Hanan from Baflon, Rashid Dawood, Dhul-Faqar Dada, Mohammed Akhras, and Mohammed Ahmed from Bulbul, as well as Mervan Rasho from Gamrok village, converting one of these properties into a secret prison.
It is noted that the Ahrar al-Sharqiya militia, led by Abu Hatim Shaqra and predominantly composed of fighters from Deir ez-Zor province, includes numerous former ISIS members who escaped after the group’s defeat by the Syrian Democratic Forces. Among them are the aforementioned Abu Muhammad Sharqiyah and Ibrahim Saffan.
