According to our reporter in Afrin, IDPs from Damascus countryside have been involved in the unlawful cutting down of olive trees in the outskirts of Afrin.
Two days ago, these IDPs were seen cutting olive trees from a field owned by Haider Sheikh Hassan, a forcibly displaced resident from the village of Terenda. The illegal activity took place behind the Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood, amidst daylight and in plain view of an armed checkpoint jointly operated by the Sultan Suleiman Shah Brigade and Al-Hamza Division militia.
This is not the first time such actions have occurred. Previously, the same group of IDPs had vandalized another field, also filled with olive trees, belonging to Nuri Najjar, another forcibly displaced resident from the same village. The incident, which occurred in mid-December 2023, involved the use of saws and axes to destroy the olive trees, highlighting a concerning trend of illegal activity in the region.
