Turkish-Backed Militants Cut Down More Olive Trees in Afrin for Profit

Afrin Post – Exclusive

Armed members of Turkish-allied militias have been reported to have systematically felled 92 olive trees in the occupied countryside of Afrin, with the apparent intention of profiting from their wood.

According to our correspondent, the militants targeted olive groves near the village of Istêr in the central district, indiscriminately cutting down approximately 75 trees. Among the victims are the olive groves belonging to Kurdish citizens Abdul Hannan Ibrahim, Ibrahim Sido, Jihad Suleiman, and Imad Mustafa.

In a separate incident near the Medanki Dam, a militant identified as “Asmar,” associated with the “Jaish al-Nukhba” militia, was documented cutting down 17 olive trees owned by citizen Ahmed Nasan from the village of Medanki in the Shara district.

The wanton destruction of these olive trees, essential to the livelihoods of local communities, highlights the ongoing exploitation and disruption of resources in the region by Turkish-backed forces.
