Explosion in Afrin Leaves Civilians and Militants Injured

afrinpost- Exclusive

A motorcycle rigged with explosives exploded on Tuesday evening, February 6, near the Newroz roundabout in the center of the occupied city of Afrin. This resulted in injuries to civilians, including a child, and two members of the armed militias affiliated with the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army, in addition to damaging several cars and commercial shops, according to our correspondent in the area.

The correspondent added that Turkish-affiliated militias (Military Police and Sultan Murad) arrested the injured child, accusing him of placing the booby-trapped motorcycle near the roundabout, in addition to arresting another individual on the same charge.

Such explosions continue to occur in the region amidst the Turkish authorities’ perpetuation of a state of security chaos and the absence of the law since the Kurdish region fell under occupation in March 2018. On September 27, 2023, five people, mostly children, were injured in an explosion caused by a booby-trapped motorcycle in the Al-Ashrafiya neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin.
