Turkish intelligence, in collaboration with the political security militia, arrested a Kurdish citizen with disabilities, Sheikh Mannan Kero, and his wife on January 24th in the occupied city of Afrin. The couple, residents of Khalta village in Jindires district, were detained without any clear charges.

Sheikh Mannan, a 40-year-old known as “Al-Jolaq”. Due to his hand disability, he operates a passenger transport vehicle servicing his village Khalta and the city of Afrin. The joint operation by Turkish intelligence and the political security militia has sparked concerns over arbitrary arrests, especially targeting individuals with special needs like Sheikh Mannan. A day prior, on January 23rd, Turkish intelligence had also arrested 70-year-old Ali Omar from Alamdara village on charges related to his deceased daughter’s affiliation with a political party.
