Kurdish citizens continue to face ongoing oppression and arbitrary arrests, a result of the influence exerted by IDPs in the occupied Afrin region, backed by Turkish-affiliated militias who engage in extortion, employing mafia-like tactics to extract money from the local population.
“afrinpost” has learned that, approximately 12 days ago, the Civil Police militia affiliated with the Turkish authorities arrested Kurdish teacher Ali Qeddo from the village of Trinda. This arrest followed a complaint filed against him by an IDP originally from Ghouta, Damascus, demanding a sum of $95,000.
Ali, a 47-year-old citizen, owns an olive oil press in the village of Trinda. During the olive oil season, he bought oil from the IDP at $30 per can, and the IDP paid him a total of nine thousand dollars for the entire purchased oil at that time.
After the olive oil season, the price of an oil can rose. The IDP returned to trade the previously sold oil with Ali, now demanding $95 per can instead of the initial $30. He lodged a complaint against Ali with the Civil Police militia, which sided with him, annulled the initial sale, and arrested citizen Ali Qeddo.
