Intricacies Surrounding Kurdish Engineer’s Huge Ransom and Release in Afrin

afrinpost-Exclusive

In a recent development, Turkish militias released the kidnapped engineer, “Sheikho Jamil Zada,” in exchange for a ransom of twenty thousand dollars paid by his family in two installments. The engineer, hailing from the village of Zeytunake, and serving as the director of the Sharan Water Station, was abducted and subjected to three and a half months of torture.

Zada was seized by armed individuals on September 28, 2023, while returning from his workplace in the town of Sharan to his village of Zeytunake. His car was discovered near the water channel in the village of Sinarah.

Initially demanding a ransom of seventy thousand dollars, the kidnappers later reduced the amount to twenty thousand dollars, as reported by our sources.

Pro-Turkish authorities’ media outlets propagated that the military police in Afrin liberated Engineer Sheikho through a raid on the location where he was abducted, targeting the headquarters of the “Idris Araba Brigade,” affiliated with the “Sultan Murad Division.” This operation led to the arrest of some “Murad” militia members, seemingly as a cover-up for the kidnapping.

Additionally, reliable sources revealed the release of citizen “Sheikh Saeed Sheikh Ismail Zada” from the village of Zeytunake – Sharan district, who was arbitrarily detained by Turkish intelligence and the military police on December 19, 2023, along with his relative, citizen “Najlaa Hanan Sheikh Ismail Zada.” Remarkably, Najlaa was released just two days after her arrest, without clear reasons provided.
