In a disturbing incident, armed individuals associated with the Turkish-affiliated “Sultan Murad” militia executed a ruthless attack on 45 olive trees, causing irreparable damage to 14 of them. The targeted olive groves were located in the villages of Derwish and Naza within the Shara district. The owner, Mahmoud Sido, a resident of Naza village who operates a business in Afrin city selling olive-based products, witnessed the brutal act.
This incident is part of an alarming trend, as illustrated by a previous attack on 15 olive trees belonging to Omar Ali, a villager from Çê/Jebliya village in the Rajo district. Notably, these attackers are identified as IDPs residing in makeshift tents.
The broader context reveals an ongoing assault on the agricultural landscape of Afrin. Since the beginning of the current year until October, a staggering 8,429 trees, encompassing olives, pomegranates, and various fruit-bearing species, have fallen victim to brutal and destructive actions.
