Following the theft of the olive season and exorbitant levies imposed on fields and olive oil production in the occupied region of Afrin, dozens of olive trees have been ruthlessly cut down by armed militants and IDPs.
The Kurdish locals find themselves powerless to protect their fields or file complaints against the assailants due to the complicity of Turkish authorities and their militias. Those who dare to speak openly about the violations they face fear arrest and abduction.
In this context, Kurdish TikToker “Mohammed Mustafa Hamoud” posted a video exposing the cutting and destruction of olive trees by militants after the theft of the harvest in the occupied city of Jindires, showing broken branches of olive trees.
He questioned, “You plundered the olives, and we resigned to leave our matter to God. Yet, why destroy the trees? What prompts such animosity towards the land and us”
As a consequence of sharing the video, the “Suleiman Shah/Al-Amshat” militia abducted him on December 1st and subsequently took him to the militia’s security center in the Sheikh al-Hadid district. He was only released after paying a financial fine.
