Kurdish Citizen Forced to Flee Afrin Amid Extortion and Threats from Militias

afrinpost-Exclusive

Our reporter in Afrin reveals the plight of Kurdish citizen “Luqman Nuri Qaddour” (50 years old) from the village of Musanka, who was compelled to leave Afrin and flee due to relentless oppression and extortion.

Residing in the occupied city of Afrin, Luqman received threats from armed members of the “Ahrar al-Sharqiya” militia, demanding a hefty sum of $50,000 under the threat of dire consequences if he failed to comply.

The story dates back over five years, with the militia falsely claiming to have protected Luqman’s Bereen (olive remains) factory during the occupation of Afrin. Initially paying $10,000, Luqman became a target of constant abduction and threats. About a month ago, he was forced to leave Afrin with his family, escaping the ongoing kidnappings and persistent threats from the militia.

It’s noteworthy that the “Ahrar al-Sharqiya” militia had previously kidnapped Luqman from his home in the Mahmudiya neighborhood on 6/7/2023, accusing him of past ties with the Autonomous Administration. He was released on 23/7/2023 after paying a hefty ransom of $5,000.
