The Society for Threatened Peoples International (STPI) actively participated in commemorating the seventy-ninth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for 1948. This significant event was organized by the “Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (FIACAT)” and took place on December 10, 2023, in the presence of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

In a released statement, the STPI emphasized the critical juncture we find ourselves in, asserting that without human rights, the foundation of our civilization is at risk of collapsing. The group underscored the inseparable link between human rights and prosperity, emphasizing the need to respect and defend the rights of every individual.

Distinguished speakers at the event included Frank Heinrich and Martin Patzelt, former members of the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag), both recognized advocates for human rights.

Dr. Kamal Sido, the Middle East affairs expert representing the Society for Threatened Peoples, delivered a poignant speech addressing the persecution faced by the residents of Afrin, his birthplace. Dr. Sido highlighted the daily attacks on locals by Turkey and Islamic militia fighters led by Ankara. Additionally, he shed light on the challenges faced by Christians and other minorities in northern Syria and various parts of the Middle East.

In a unique gesture, Dr. Sido, as a Muslim figure, offered prayers for various religions, expressing them in both Kurdish and Arabic. The German translation of the prayer was eloquently read by a representative from ACATs in Germany. The event brought together voices advocating for human rights, fostering a collective commitment to defending the fundamental rights of individuals worldwide.
