A Kurdish woman, Malak Khalil Ibo (63), from the village of Ali Jaro – Balbull sub-district, has tragically passed away in Afrin after enduring over five years of house and olive field deprivation. The recent incident unfolded against the backdrop of direct death threats and the storming of her residence by masked gunmen at night.
Mrs. Malak, the widow of Mannan Hussein Ibrahim, returned to her village a year ago from Al-Shahba region, where she was forcibly displaced. All her children remain in Al-Shahba, except for a daughter who is married in the same village. Despite her return, Mrs. Malak struggled unsuccessfully to reclaim her seized house and olive field from the “Suqur al-Shamal” militia.
The one occupying her house is the so-called “Asmar,” the economic official in the “Suqur al-Shamal” militia, who adamantly refuses to vacate. In response to her persistent demand for the return of her property, Asmar personally threatened Mrs. Malak.
The tragic turn of events occurred when, staying in a relative’s house in the village, Mrs. Malak faced another threat late at night from two masked gunmen. Terrified and frightened, she suffered a stroke and was subsequently transferred to a hospital in the city of Afrin, where she passed away.
In accordance with her will, Mrs. Malak’s body was transported to her long-deprived home for the funeral. The incident has sparked a significant wave of condemnation, with activists circulating her story and the poignant moment when she finally entered her house, albeit wrapped in a shroud.
