Turkish Authorities Release Kurdish Citizens in Afrin for Hefty Sums, Seize Homes

Turkish authorities released two Kurdish citizens in Afrin on November 23 after imposing substantial fines and seizing one of their homes, according to our correspondent in Afrin.

The correspondent informed that the Military Police militia granted the release of citizen “Azad Mohammed Rasho” after he paid a two-thousand-dollar fee for his freedom. Azad, 37 years old, hails from Gamrook village in the Mobata district and had been arrested by Turkish intelligence on November 7 from his residence in the Mahmudiya neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin. He faced charges related to Night shifts guard during the previous Autonomous Administration era, despite being in Turkey. Turkish authorities deported him to Afrin approximately four months ago.

Additionally, another citizen, “Nidal Mohammed,” was released on November 20 after paying seven thousand dollars through an intermediary. The release, however, came at the cost of forfeiting the home where he resided in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood of occupied Afrin.

Nidal, hailing from Khilalka village in the Rajo district, was arrested by the Military Police militia on November 5 on charges of espionage for the Syrian Democratic Forces. A militia member from the joint forces of the Hamzat and Amshat militias seized his residence.

afrinpost” has documented a total of 26 arrests and abductions since the beginning of November 2023, including 3 women, 7 cases involving citizens who recently returned to Afrin, and 11 incidents at checkpoints controlled by the Nubl, Zahra militias. Additionally, 14 cases of release have been confirmed.
