Tensions Escalate as Militia Leader “Abu Walid al-Azzi” Conducts Raids in Afrin

afrinpost-Exclusive

On October 31, militia leader “Abu Walid al-Azzi,” affiliated with the “Sultan Murad Brigade,” initiated a campaign of raids, theft, and abductions against IDPs loyal to his rival militia leader, “Hijab,” following disputes and conflicts between them in Qurna village, Bulbul sub-district, in occupied Afrin.

Our correspondent reported that during the raid, “Al-Azzi’s” forces stole money, gold jewelry, and women’s underwear, an act that provoked the “Hijab” faction. They considered the theft of women’s underwear an affront to their honor and threatened to eliminate “Abu Walid al-Azzi” and his elements, urging the IDPs from the loyalist tribe to remain neutral and refrain from intervening.

The attack on the homes of IDPs loyal to militia leader “Hijab” comes as a response to “Hijab’s” attack on “Abu Walid al-Azzi’s” strongholds in Qurne village on the previous day. During that confrontation, “Hijab” succeeded in seizing an olive press forcibly controlled by “Al-Azzi” on the road to Qastal Khudriyah. The situation reflects the ongoing rivalries and tensions in the region.
