The Turkish-affiliated armed factions along with IDPs loyal to them are ruthlessly chopping down trees, plunging the agricultural landscape into chaos in the occupied region of Afrin, northern Syria.
IDPs, believed to be from Homs, have brazenly cut down approximately 60 olive trees owned by Ali Hesso Abu Ahmad. The targeted field is situated on the road connecting Aoukan and Qastal Muqdad in the Bulbul district. This heinous act follows the looting of the olive harvest.
In the Jindires district, the Hamzat militia tightens its grip on the village of Feqîra/Faqiran, persisting in the relentless cutting of olive trees. On the night of November 25, 42 olive trees were cut down, with 9 completely severed and 33 partially cut. Shockingly, these fruitful trees boasted an age of no less than fifty years.
In a disturbing incident along Gelî Şiyê\ Wadi Shiyeh road, armed thieves struck, cutting 16 olive trees owned by Hameed Suleiman from the village of Khaziana in the Mobata district. This follows the earlier plundering of the olives on November 10, leaving a trail of devastation.
It is worth noting that the scale of the issue becomes apparent as from the start of the year until October, militia members have felled 8,429 trees in the occupied Afrin region. This includes 5,030 olive trees and 2,060 pomegranate trees, with various other fruit-bearing trees.
