Land Deed Revocation Tactics Emerge in Afrin as Militias Seize Control, Prompting Concerns

The revocation of land deeds and their withdrawal from Kurdish citizens by the agents cutting ties with their relatives or offspring has become an innovative militia tactic to seize the properties of the original residents of Afrin, all under the watchful eyes of the Turkish authorities.

Our correspondent reports that the security forces of the “Suleiman Shah/Al-Amshat” militia have begun interrogating the residents of the village of Hisê/Mirkan in Mobata district, regarding their agricultural land ownership. They demand documents proving their land ownership and proceed to revoke the powers of attorney from citizens managing lands owned by those displaced forcibly from Afrin.

He further explained that the people of Hisê village are subjected to intimidation and physical abuse during the interrogation by the security office members of the “Amshat” militia in the Mobata district.

In addition, the “Hamza Brigade/Al-Hamzat” militia is conducting a census of olive trees in fields belonging to citizens forcibly displaced from Afrin, placing them under the control of agents on their behalf and placing markers on them, paving the way for the final seizure of their lands.

It is worth noting that the economic office affiliated with the “Samarqand” militia, last October, canceled a significant portion of land deeds of attorney in the villages under its control in the Mobata and Jindires districts. The remaining deeds were subject to a financial levy of two and a half dollars for each olive tree.

Moreover, a financial levy ranging between 2.5 and 3 dollars for each olive tree was imposed after the cancellation of deeds in the village of Kafr Safra in the Jindires district of occupied Afrin. The militia controls about 25,000 olive trees in Kafr Safra, making them collect over $60,000 from the levies imposed on Kurdish farmers.
