Our correspondent in Afrin reported that unauthorized property sales targeting the original inhabitants of Afrin continue to take place, facilitated by Turkish-affiliated militias. Recent incidents include the sale of several homes and commercial properties located in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin.
A member of the Civil Police militia originally from Ghouta, Damascus, sold two houses located near the power station to a relative for a sum of $600 each. These properties originally belonged to forcibly displaced Afrin residents, namely “Mohammed Rasoul” and “Khalil Rashid Khalil,” who hail from the Bulbul sub-district.
Furthermore, an IDP originally from Arbin sold a shop to another IDP from the same area for $800. The shop was still under construction at the time of sale and had previously belonged to “Khalil Horo,” a resident of the Sheikhurzeh village in the Bulbul sub-district.
These unauthorized property transactions have raised concerns among the original inhabitants of Afrin, who continue to face dispossession and exploitation at the hands of Turkish-backed militias.
