Militants affiliated with Turkish-affiliated SNA groups are resorting to a new approach, combining the theft of livelihoods with tree-cutting, targeting Kurdish citizens and their properties in the occupied region of Afrin.
Our correspondent in Afrin city reported that members of the “Sultan Murad” militia engaged in the theft of green olives and immediately proceeded to cut down trees to profit from the timber in fields near Tel Tawil village in the occupied Afrin countryside, despite the landowners residing in Afrin.
These armed individuals were seen wielding chainsaws, cutting down trees after stealing the olives from the fields of citizens Mustafa Ahmed from the village of Khalnereh, Shawqi Mohammed from the village of Ain Hajar, and Ahmed Sido from the village of Jiya, even though they were present in the city of Afrin.
The number of trees felled since this morning has reached 30 trees so far.
It’s worth noting that on September 13, 2023, armed groups had cut down 75 olive trees after completely looting their fruits along the Nabi-Hori Road in the Sheran subdistrict of the occupied Afrin.
