Kurdish Property Sales Raise Concerns in Afrin

afrinpost-Exclusive

Our sources in Afrin confirmed cases concerning IDPs involved in alleged property transactions within the occupied city of Afrin. These transactions involve the sale of properties that were originally owned by Kurdish residents. In these instances, IDPs have been reported to be demanding monetary compensation from the original Kurdish owners in exchange for vacating and transferring the properties.

An IDP, hailing from Damascus, demanded a substantial sum of $2,000 in exchange for transferring a property in the Al-Zaydia neighborhood. This property initially belonged to Mr. Ahmed Rasho. The demand for compensation was initiated after Mr. Rasho’s recent return from Aleppo.

Another case revealed an IDP originating from Eastern Ghouta, Damascus, who sold a property for $1,500 to an IDP from Idlib. The property, owned by Mr. Mohammed Maamo from Jindires, is located in the vicinity of the new bridge in Afrin.

Further concerns arise from a property sale in the Al-Ashrafieh neighborhood. In this transaction, an IDP from Idlib reportedly purchased a property that originally belonged to Ms. Leila Omar. The exchange took place for a sum of $1,700.
