Intense clashes erupted today, October 30, in the Afrin region as two militia leaders from the “Sultan Murad Brigade” disputed over the theft of olive crops and yields from forcibly acquired fields in the villages of Qurna and Bulbul in the occupied Afrin.
According to our correspondent at “Afrin Post,” a militia leader named “Hijab” launched an attack on the headquarters of the militia leader “Abu Walid al-Azzi” in Qurna village, Bulbul district. He succeeded in gaining control over an olive press that was taken over by “Al-Azzi” on the road to Qastal Khudriyah after fierce confrontations.
Our correspondent explained that the conflict began between the militia leaders after “Abu Walid al-Azzi,” accompanied by a military police patrol, apprehended eight IDPs close to the “Hijab” militia leader. They were charged with harvesting and stealing olives from fields forcibly controlled by “Al-Azzi” in Qurna village.
As a result of these clashes, both parties deployed military reinforcements to the Bulbul district in an attempt to seize as many olive trees as possible in the region. Notably, the leaders “Hijab” and “Al-Azzi” are distant relatives belonging to the Beni Az tribe.
It’s worth mentioning that violent clashes erupted on October 23 between the armed groups of the “Ninth Division” and those of the “Ammar Bayanouni” group in Qastal Khudriyah village, Bulbul district, due to disputes over influence, expansion, theft, levies, and drug trade.
