Two militants from the Turkish-affiliated Faylaq al-Sham succumbed to their wounds this evening, raising the death toll to five militants following an infiltration operation carried out by the Afrin Liberation Forces on Monday. The operation took place in the area between the villages of Birj al-Qas and Kafr Nibu in the Sherawa sub-district of northern-western Syria, in the Afrin region.
In a related context, tension was observed at the Al-Qaws checkpoint at the entrance to the eastern city of Afrin. This came amid a standoff between the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), also known as Jabhat al-Nusra, and the “Military Police” militia, causing elements of the Turkish Police to flee the area due to concerns over potential clashes between the two groups.
A correspondent for “afrinpost” in the area reported that “Tahrir al-Sham” is preparing a military convoy in the city of Darat Azza, west of Aleppo, for deployment to the city of Afrin due to the new tensions.
