Turkish Authorities Detain Afrin Resident

afrinpost-Exclusive

Our sources in Afrin have reported that Turkish intelligence, working in tandem with the Military Police militia, detained Mr. Mustafa Hannan Mohammed, a 45-year-old resident of Sharqiya village in the Bulbul sub-district. This incident took place approximately one week ago within al-Ashrafieh neighborhood of the occupied city of Afrin. The reasons behind his arrest remain undisclosed.

This detention adds to the growing tally of such occurrences. “afrinpost” has diligently recorded 41 cases of arrests and abductions throughout the month of August 2023, including two women and minors, alongside seven cases involving individuals forcibly deported from Turkey. Remarkably, our records account for 14 instances of detainees being subsequently released.

These arrests often transpire arbitrarily, involving the apprehension of citizens at security checkpoints or through forceful home invasions. These actions are characterized by extensive searches and the humiliation of the affected residents. The charges predominantly focus on alleged affiliations with the former Autonomous Administration or purported collaboration with Kurdish military entities.
