Turkish Forces Detain Civilian in Afrin For Alleged Accusations

Local sources reported that the Civil Police Militia in the city of Afrin arrested citizen “Haitham Muhammad Jumaa” (32 years old) from the village of Gazeh on August 3rd. He was accused of having dealings with the previous Autonomous Administration in Afrin.

A patrol of the Civil Police Militia raided Haitham’s home in Afrin city, taking him to an undisclosed location in an attempt to extort money from his family. In Afrin, Turkish authorities and their armed militias fabricate charges against Kurdish citizens, mostly revolving around their previous associations with the Autonomous Administration. This is done with the aim of financial extortion, tightening control, and pressuring them to leave Afrin.

afrinpost” has documented 39 cases of arrest and abduction in July 2023, including 31 cases affecting the people of Afrin. These incidents encompass arrests at the Syrian regime’s checkpoints. Additionally, 15 cases of release have been recorded, some of which are related to prior detentions. This is in addition to a case of a missing individual.
