In a recent incident, the home of elderly Kurdish resident “Akash Ali” from the village of Badeena was burglarized. This incident occurred on August 13th near the water reservoir in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood of occupied Afrin.

The thieves reportedly drugged the elderly man using a sedative spray and ransacked his home, stealing copper utensils, gas cylinders, a battery, a mobile phone, and a sum of money estimated to be around 5,000 Turkish liras.

In another incident, an IDP who had seized a property in the Al-Hakim building in al-Ashrafieh neighborhood sold it to his cousin for $1,200. The original owner of the property, “Mohammed Khalo”, hails from Bulbul town, Afrin.

It is notable that these armed robbers often employ sedative sprays to carry out their thefts in the homes of elderly Kurdish citizens. Their victims are frequently seniors living alone or individuals who are absent from their homes, either in their villages or while attending to their needs within the city.

In a separate occurrence on August 6th, two assailants entered the home of “Mohammed Ahmed” from the village of Ain al-Hajr near al-Ashrafieh garden. They sprayed a sedative on his and his wife’s faces and stole a motorcycle, a gold piece of jewelry, and a sum of money totaling six thousand Turkish liras.

Similarly, on the morning of July 30th, 2023, the home of “Samir Bakr” from the village of Marateh was robbed. The thieves took advantage of his absence as he underwent a medical procedure in the hospital. They managed to steal all the contents of his house, located near the post office building in the Old Afrin neighborhood
