Over $5,000 in Fines and Bribes: Military Police Demands for Release of Kurds in Afrin

The Military Police militia in Afrin has released Hassan Khudr Hamo (36 years old), a resident of Kimareh village in Sherawa sub-district, today on August 22nd, after he paid a fine of $800 and bribes totaling $1500 in the occupied city of Afrin.

The incident dates back to August 12th, 2023, when security checkpoint personnel at the southern entrance of Afrin city, known as “Terenda Checkpoint,” arrested Hassan while he was en route from his residence in Basuta village to the city.

Private sources has repored that the Military Police militia is demanding a fine of $3000 from the family of citizen Haitham Mohammad Jaafar, a resident of Gazeh village, for his release.

Haitham, aged 32, works as an automotive mechanic in the industrial area of Afrin city. He was arrested by a joint patrol of Turkish intelligence and the Military Police militia on August 2nd, 2023, at his home near Saleh Al-Ali School in al-Ashrafiya neighborhood. His residence was also marked by the militia after forcing his wife and children out.
