According to our reporte, Turkish intelligence has issued a new directive that has been circulated to the local councils in Afrin city. The directive requires Kurdish citizens to visit the security office for “inspection,” which aims to verify their security records as part of a systematic policy of harassment and marginalization against the indigenous population.
The reporter explains that every Kurdish or Afrin resident who has dealings with any department of the local council must undergo a security check at the Turkish intelligence office in the respective department. This check is to ensure that there are no criminal charges against them, such as involvement in car theft or being a witness in a certain case, among other things. It is worth noting that this procedure does not apply to the IDPs.
Turkish intelligence has established offices in the seven sub-districts of the Afrin region, and they have also discreetly appointed representatives and agents to oversee and guide their work within the security, military, and service departments. These measures align with the Turkish policies that have been in place since the occupation of Afrin in March 2018.
