Turkish-backed Militants Attack Kurdish Civilian in Qara Qul Village, Afrin

afrinpost– Exclusive

In a disturbing incident, armed militants affiliated with Turkish-backed SNA militias directly targeted a Kurdish civilian in Qara Qul village, located in the Bulbul sub-district of Afrin, on July 7th. The victim, identified as “Jihad Mohammed Jabo” (24 years old), sustained serious gunshot wounds and was subsequently transferred to a hospital in the occupied city of A’zaz.

According to information received, three militants stormed the house of the victim, located on the outskirts of Qara Qul village, and opened fire directly at him. Jihad was struck by two bullets in the shoulder area before the assailants fled the scene, leaving behind threats and demanding that the Kurdish young man evacuate his home, where he resides with his family.

It is worth noting that Jihad is employed in one of the municipalities under the local administration of the Turkish-backed councils. The village has been under the control of the Sultan Murad and Hamza Brigade militias since its occupation in 2018.

This crime is not an isolated incident, as the occupied Kurdish region has witnessed numerous atrocities against Kurdish civilians. Ankara’s deliberate empowerment of armed militias has led to a surge in various crimes and violations without accountability.

On March 30, 2020, Dilbirin Arabo, a young man, was targeted for assassination by militants from the “Faylaq al-Sham” militia. He was shot twice in the abdomen and denied medical treatment at hospitals in Afrin because he refused to evacuate his home in Basoufan village, located in the Sherawa sub-district, for the benefit of a militia leader.

Similarly, on June 11, 2023, an armed group affiliated with the aforementioned “Faylaq al-Sham” militia occupying Nuriyah village in the Rajo sub-district brutally attacked Kamal Hassan Manan (65 years old), an elderly citizen who was guarding his wheat crop. He sustained head injuries and lost consciousness due to the severe beating. Some residents came to his aid the following morning and transported him to a medical center for treatment.

Another tragic incident occurred on June 12, 2023, when Awfa Sheikh Za’eem (31 years old) was fatally stabbed by armed thieves who also looted her jewelry and set her house on fire near Maratah Roundabout in the occupied city of Afrin.
