With the arrival of the agricultural seasons, waves of theft, looting, and robbing of the livelihoods of Kurdish residents in Afrin by SNA armed elements and their IDPs relatives become more prominent. The owners of the fields find themselves unable to halt or deter the recurring encroachments since the occupation of the Afrin region in 2018.
In this context, armed individuals residing in the Rajo sub-district have stolen the sumac crops from the fields belonging to the residents of Qaysam, Dikka, Zivinga, Ashwna, and along the road between the villages of Sotyu, Kukhra, and Merkan. They have threatened the field owners with weapons if they attempt to intervene or approach them.
The affected field owners identified thus far include Rashid Ahmed, Saidu Aref, Hannan Hamo, Rashid Saidu, Shukri Mohammed, and Mohammed Shekho.
Every agricultural season, armed individuals hasten to sabotage and randomly loot the crops of Kurdish civilians in Afrin. On June 25, 2023, the theft of the Kurdish residents’ fruit crops was documented in the villages of Ein Dara, Basouta, and Burj Abdalou in the occupied territory of Afrin. The thieves responsible for this act originated from the village of Tal Jabin in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
