In a recent development, elements of the State Security branch within the Syrian regime have arrested a Kurdish citizen on June 10. The individual in question, identified as Ali Kujer (43 years old) and hailing from the village of Shiltata’te in the occupied Afrin region, was apprehended at the Jandoul checkpoint upon his return from a visit to relatives in the Shahba area of northern Aleppo.
According to our correspondent, Ali Kujer was detained and subjected to a thorough search without being informed of the charges against him. It should be noted that Syrian regime checkpoints are scattered throughout the entrances of the Shahba area, including Al-Ahadath village, as well as the towns of Nubl and Zahraa, and the city of Aleppo itself, specifically at Jandoul Roundabout, Sheikh Maqsoud East, and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods. These checkpoints subject travelers, especially Kurds, to extensive inspection and detain them based on pre-prepared lists or arbitrary excuses.
This incident follows a similar occurrence on April 24, 2023, when State Security forces at the checkpoint along the Aleppo-Al-Ahadath road detained a Kurdish woman from the displaced residents of Afrin. She was on her way from the Shahba area to Aleppo and was charged with possessing one million Syrian pounds.
Additionally, in mid-April 2023, State Security checkpoint personnel detained a Kurdish woman as she was heading from the Kurdish-controlled checkpoint in Ashrafiyah neighborhood to Syrian regime-controlled areas for medical treatment. Like previous cases, the charges against her remain undisclosed.
