A Kurdish family, including the parents and their children, was apprehended by the military police militia in Afrin after being threatened and assaulted by armed individuals from the Akidat clan. The incident occurred in the village of Kurzêlê/Kurzehel in the Sherawa sub-district of occupied Afrin.
According to reliable sources, a dispute arose in early June between the young Kurdish teenager, Ahmed Rashid Kalbijak (17 years old), and four IDP youths from the Akidat clan. The dispute was resolved at the time.
However, on June 17, as Ahmed and his family were returning from their orchard, the same group of young men began provoking and threatening him again. In self-defense, Ahmed drew a knife from his pocket, which prompted the assailants to call for assistance from members of their clan, who were armed militants formerly affiliated with the “Al-Jabha al-Shamiya” militia.
Around 15 armed individuals from Afrin City arrived and attacked Ahmed Kalbijak’s family in their home in the village of Kurzehel, physically assaulting them and attempting to evict them from their own house. They also fired shots into the air to sow panic and fear among the village residents.
Subsequently, military police militia members arrived and arrested the entire family of Ahmed Kalbijak instead of detaining the assailants and the armed individuals involved in the attack. The family remains in custody to this day.
