Desperate Kurdish Farmers in Afrin Forced to Cut Down Their Own Trees Amid Ongoing Militia Oppression

afrinpost– Exclusive

The Turkish-affiliated SNA groups continue to perpetrate violations against the vulnerable Kurdish population in Afrin, who are unable to protect their properties and lands from looting and theft. The “Hamza Division” militia persistently carries out attacks on agricultural lands, unjustly cutting down trees and imposing levies, preventing citizens from freely working on their own properties.

In this context, three individuals, Mustafa Ma’mou, Jumaa Ma’mou, and Zaki Ma’mou, who are relatives from the village of Kurzêlê\ Qurzihel in the Sherawa sub-district, have resorted to cutting down trees on their lands in response to the repeated harassment by the “Hamza Division” militia and its continuous unjustified tree cutting and trading of the wood.

Our correspondent reported that the three citizens were forced to cut approximately 2,000 pomegranate trees they owned in the village of Ain Dara after losing hope of harvesting their crops and fearing that the “Hamza Division” militia would cut down their trees and sell them as firewood for heating.

Similarly, armed militants from the “Suleiman Shah” militia, also known as the “Amshat,” cut down around 20 pine trees near the village of Kaxrê in the Mobata sub-district of occupied Afrin.
