Turkish authorities release Kurds after payment of ransom in Afrin

Turkish authorities have released two Kurdish citizens after their families paid a ransom of $4,000. The arrests were made under false charges to extort money and exert pressure on the residents of the occupied region of Afrin.

In a related development, the military police militia in Azaz released Najdat Murad Alo, a 50-year-old resident of Dîkê village in the Rajo sub-district, after his family paid a ransom of $4,000. Najdat and Ahmed Qader Habash attempted to cross the border on May 5, but went missing for several days before it was discovered that the military police had arrested them in Azaz. While Najdat was released, Ahmed Qader Habash remains in custody.

Yesterday, the military police in Afrin also released Mohammad Azaldin Ali, a resident of Mosaka village in the Rajo sub-district, after his family paid a ransom of $400 in the occupied city of Afrin. Mohammad Azaldin Ali, 31, was arrested on April 12, 2023, on charges of serving in the compulsory military service during the previous Autonomous Administration authority in Afrin.
