afrinpost – Exclusive

The military police in the city of Afrin is demanding a sum of $7,000 in exchange for returning the land of a Kurdish woman “Um Mohammad” from the village of Mashaala. Meanwhile, the local council in Afrin has given shop owners in the old Hal market one week to move to the new market located 1 km southeast of Tirindê/Al-Zarifa village.

In detail, Um Mohammad is demanding the return of her land, which is located near the water tank in al-Ashrafiya neighborhood, with an area of approximately 1,500 square meters. The military police militia took over the land, claiming that they wanted to set up a camp for their members there. However, they are now demanding that Um Mohammad pay $7,000 to reclaim her land.

In other news, the local council in Afrin has issued a statement on its Facebook page on May 2, announcing that all commercial activities and events in the Hal market in the industrial area of the occupied city of Afrin will be relocated to the new market site. The council has set Thursday, May 11, 2023, as the deadline for the last day of work in the old market.

The new Hal market project was built on confiscated land, which belongs to several citizens, including Mohammed Bashir Aswad, an Arab citizen who left Afrin after the occupation and returned later to file a lawsuit against the occupiers in an attempt to reclaim his land, but to no avail.
