Our reporter in Afrin said that the Turkish-backed Faylaq al- Sham militia has recently relocated IDPs from families of its armed members who originated from Eastern Ghouta to the newly opened Um Tuba settlement near the village of Şadêrê/Sheikh al-Deir, south of Afrin city in northwest Syria.
The reporter clarified that Faylaq al-Sham militia has transported IDPs from the villages of Kabashin, Fafertin, Burj Sulaman, and Basoufan to reside in the Um Tuba settlement. These families have transferred all their household furniture from the houses they had seized since the Kurdish region’s occupation in 2018.
The Um Tuba settlement was officially inaugurated on May 8th. It is a new settlement housing project located near the village of Şadêrê/Sheikh al-Deir in the Sherawa sub-district.
The settlement, which consists of 40 residential apartments, accommodating a total of 281 settler families, equivalent to approximately 1,700 individuals, was named “Um Tuba” after the Palestinian village that provided funding for the project. The Palestinian village is situated southeast of Jerusalem.
