In a disturbing incident today, Thursday, May 4, members of the Civil Police launched a brutal attack on IDPs from the Mawali tribe, leading to the violent beatings and subsequent arrest of three individuals in the Al-Mahata camp, located in the Rajo sub-district of occupied Afrin.
According to our correspondent, a brawl broke out between IDPs from the Mawali tribe and members of the Bani Az clan in the Al-Mahata camp. When the Civil Police Militia attempted to intervene and apprehend one of the IDPs from the Mawali tribe, he refused to comply and was met with verbal abuse from one of the officers. This prompted the Mawali IDPs to retaliate, assaulting the patrol members and damaging their vehicles.
As a result, the Civil Police Militia called for reinforcements to the Al-Mahata camp, and the patrol members began to assault women who tried to prevent them from arresting several of IDPd. The patrol subsequently arrested three women and took them to the security center in the town center of Rajo.
Our correspondent added that armed members of the Mawali tribe demanded the release of the women and threatened to storm the police headquarters if their demands were not met. However, the Civil Police Militia refused to release the women until the IDPs who had assaulted their officers and damaged their vehicles were handed over. Tensions continue to escalate in the Rajo sub-district amid this ongoing situation.
