Turkish-allied armed militias continue to engage in illegal and arbitrary cutting of olive and fruit trees that belong to the original Kurdish inhabitants of Afrin. This is being done for the purpose of trading the wood, and in the latest incident, documented by “afrinpost,” 85 olive trees were cut down in the village of Sharan in the occupied countryside of Afrin.
Specifically, the armed groups, who are affiliated with the “Malkishah” militia and originate from the Homs countryside, cut down 60 olive trees in the village of Omara in Sharan district, including 24 trees that were cut at their trunks. These trees belonged to “Mohammed Nabi Ibrahim” from the village. The militants also cut down 25 olive trees owned by “Hassan Subhi” from the village of Çema in Sharan district.
Our reporter said that the militants took advantage of the community’s preoccupation with the events of the Jindires massacre to cut down dozens of olive trees in the occupied countryside of Afrin.
During this period, they also cut down 144 olive trees, 11 cypress and walnut trees, some of which were in the vicinity of the city of Afrin, while others were in the village of Midanki in Sharan district. These actions represent a flagrant violation of the rights of the Kurdish people, and a disregard for the environmental and economic well-being of the region.
