According to local sources, Turkish-affiliated militants have cut down 100 olive trees in the districts of Afrin and Jindires and sold them in Idlib markets. The Turkish authorities did not take any measures to prevent or protect the livelihoods and properties of the indigenous people of Afrin.
In detail, militants belonging to the “Sultan Murad” militia cut down 60 olive trees near the Afrin River, close to the village of Istêr. The trees belonged to “Abdul Karim Hassan Abdou”, who was forcibly displaced from his village of Qurtqalaq. The wood was transported to Qarah Tepa and then to Idlib.
Militants from the “Mawali” tribe also cut down 30 olive trees on the road to the village of Firêriyê in the district of Jindires, owned by “Juma Ali”, and ten other trees owned by “Fathi Batel” from the village of Kafr Zîtê.
Earlier on March 31, 2023, it was reported that militants belonging to the “Malik Shah” militia had cut down 85 olive trees in the Sharan district of Afrin.
