afrinpost– Exclusive

Our reporter in Afrin said that 12 olive trees and three large walnut trees were cut down by IDPs and armed groups loyal to Turkey in the vicinity of the occupied city of Afrin, with the intention of trafficking their timber.

On Friday, April 14th, an IDP from Hama cut down the last 12 remaining olive trees from the field of the late Sheikh Hess, from the village of Terenda, near the Terafik road on the outskirts of l-Ashrafieh neighborhood.

Armed groups also cut down three large walnut trees belonging to Khalil Mahram, from the village of Kafrshil, along the Tel Tawil road towards Rajo, during the iftar time on Saturday, April 15th, despite Khalil’s presence in al-Zaydia neighborhood in Afrin city.

A detailed report published by the organization “Syrians for Truth and Justice” and the “Lêlûn for Victims” association on April 12th revealed that 114 forest sites (including both natural and cultivated forests) in the occupied Afrin region were subject to illegal logging.

Among these sites, 57 locations were severely damaged, with trees being almost completely cut down, while 42 locations suffered moderate damage from arbitrary logging, and 15 locations were partially affected.
