Mohammed Yaser Khair Ramadan, an IDP from Douma in the outskirts of Damascus, was found dead in one of the hospitals in the occupied city of Azaz on Sunday evening, according to private sources. Relatives of the deceased IDP accuse Jaish al-Islam militia of his murder, as he was reportedly held prisoner in one of their jails in Azaz after previously being detained in Kafr Jannah prison in Afrin.
Sources, citing information from the deceased’s family, confirmed that he was in critical condition and was transferred to a hospital in Azaz, where he was found dead on Sunday.
Jaish al-Islam militia, which is affiliated with the National Army factions, is primarily composed of elements from the Eastern Ghouta region of Damascus. It relocated to the northern Aleppo countryside, including Afrin, in April 2018, instead of heading to Idlib province, due to a longstanding dispute with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra).
Numerous violations have been committed against the original Kurdish inhabitants of Afrin, including killings, kidnappings, extortion, seizure of property and land, and deforestation, until Hayat Tahrir al-Sham entered Afrin in October 2022 and was subsequently expelled from the area, relocating to the occupied Azaz region.
