Unknown gunmen targeted the car of Abdullah Al-Omar, the director of “Baladna” TV, with a hand grenade in the center of Azaz city in northern Aleppo countryside, yesterday evening, Wednesday. The attack came in response to his criticism of the so-called “National Army” militias and his labeling of the revolutionaries as “idiots”.
Our sources reported hearing an explosion caused by unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle who threw a hand grenade at the car of Abdullah Al-Omar in front of the Baladna TV building near Al-Kafin roundabout in the occupied city of Azaz.
The sources explained that the assassination attempt came as a result of Abdullah Al-Omar’s description of the “Syrian Revolution” as a revolution of “thieves, looting, money, and gangs”, and his criticism of the situation in the areas under Turkish control and the “National Army” militias in a recorded video, where he mocked their actions. The assassination attempt was a message from the “National Army” militias to him to remain silent, threatening him with death if he continues his speech.
Our sources pointed out that the assailants threw the hand grenade while the journalist was doing a live broadcast about the situation in the occupied areas and the rampant theft and security chaos. The attack resulted in only material damage to the journalist’s car, without any human casualties.
