The Turkish-affiliated Ahrar al-Sharqiya militia, has started cultivating a seized land located at the entrance of the occupied city, near the Jindires road. They have also rented out portions of the land to IDPs loyal to them.
Sources close to afrinpost reported that the Ahrar al-Sharqiya militia began planting wheat on the seized land and subsequently rented portions of it to IDPs for a monthly fee of 500 Turkish liras. The ownership of this land belongs to the Jahid Agha, from the Al-Ghubari family from Sherawa district in the occupied Afrin region.
It is worth noting that several reports and lands belonging to the late Ousman Agha’s family were seized by Turkish authorities and their militias in Afrin city. The occupying forces built shacks and shops on them and organized lease contracts for IDPs to invest in and establish their presence in the city.
After a destructive earthquake struck the area on February 6, 2023, Ankara’s militias and the IDPs loyal to them took advantage of the situation and began erecting tents in every patch of land in Afrin and its surroundings, despite some of the tents remaining uninhabited. This appears to be part of a larger effort to create settlements in the area
