A number of armed militias affiliated with Turkey, removed their checkpoints in some areas of the occupied Afrin region after a decision by the so-called Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government to hand them over to the ‘Military Police’.
A checkpoint of “Ahrar al-Sharqiya” militia at the junction of the village of Amara – Mobata district was removed, as well as another of the “Suqur al-Shamal Brigade” militia at the junction of the village of Gamruk – Shara district, while members of the “Hamzat” militia checkpoint at the junction of the village of Barband – Raju district replaced their uniforms for the Military Police uniform, our reporter said.
This came after a decision issued by the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government, on January 26, 2023, to hand over all checkpoints in the northern and eastern countryside of Aleppo and the cities of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain in northern Syria to its ‘Military Police’.
Ayman Sharara, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense in the Syrian Interim Government, said in a video statement that the security checkpoints will be handed over to the Military Police and under the supervision of the Deputy Director of the Military Police Department for Checkpoints and Crossings.
The Ministry of Defense held meetings with the military and security agencies in northern Syria, after the leaders of the “National Army” militia met with Turkish officials in the Turkish state of Gaziantep at the end of October 2022.
