Gunmen affiliated with the Turkish-supported “Sultan Murad” militia cut down on Thursday, February 3, a number of poplar trees near the Afrin River and 15 olive trees belonging to “Muhammad Sido” from the village of Ister in the occupied countryside of Afrin, according to our reporter.
Armed militias have been cutting down forest and trees from all parts of the occupied Kurdish region and trade in their firewood through dozens of sales centers supervised directly by their leaders, spread in the sub-districts and the city of Afrin, as dozens of these sale centers were monitored in the city of Afrin.
The continuous cutting operations led to the destruction of nearly 25,000 hectares of forests, which included the following types of trees: pine, cypress, oak, birch, hawthorn, and others.
