Local Council in Jindires Demands $100 for Rubble Removal from Earthquake-Damaged Homes

afrinpost – Exclusive:

The local council of Jindires has prohibited the residents of the earthquake-devastated city from removing debris from their collapsed or damaged houses without an official permit and payment of a fee of $100.

Our reporter said that homeowners with earthquake-damaged houses must apply to the local council and pay a fee of $100 to be allowed to remove debris at their own expense. The council does not provide any assistance or facilitation, and the militias prevent them from approaching the site without an official permit.

All search and rescue operations in the devastated city of Jindires have stopped since Sunday, February 19. Meanwhile, the Turkish-affiliated militias and their families are looting extensively among the debris.

Yesterday, February 21, a person had to pay $100 to remove the rubble at his own expense. However, the militants robbed him of the undamaged items he had taken out of his house, such as doors, water tanks, and others.

In Yalanqouz Street in the city center, an armed militant seized a personal donation that was intended for a Kurdish citizen, claiming that he would deliver it to its owner, but he kept it for himself.

The so-called “Mohammed Al-Jasim/Abu Amsha,” the leader of the “Sulaiman Shah/Al-Amshat” militia, has been investigating the victims of Jindires city who were well-off and identifying the buildings in which they lived. This is in preparation for excavating and extracting the money and gold jewelry buried under the rubble due to the earthquake that struck Syria on February 6.
